Manhwa, is a word that always fascinates me. Today we will talk about the best manhwas of all time. There was a time when I watched my first anime, then it turned into second and as time went by so did my number of anime watched. After I’d watched more than 100+ anime, I felt compelled to read mangas.

The reason could be described in a simple word, “Change”.

Yes! I wanted a change out of my daily routine of watching anime. Humans are beings which get bored after doing some task repeatedly for a long amount of time. I was no different, soon a time came when I was even fed up with mangas, after all how could one not be bored after reading hundreds of mangas.

At that time, when boredom was at its peak, an angel came- Well to be specific my friend came and advised, “Why don’t you read manhwa? They are cool!”

This one friend changed my life forever as he opened a new path, a never seen new world for me.

Today, I’ll be listing out the top 10 best manhwa of all time. These are those that have captured not only mine, but everyone else’s attention across the globe.

A regular student at university discovers that the latest otome game has been very popular recently and decides to find out if it is worth her time. As, she is a very good gamer, she clears the normal mode in no time. She then finds herself pitying Penelope Eckhart. Penelope, who is the protagonist of the game, is a fake. She’s a replacement for the missing daughter of the Duke.

As the difficulty level was so high, that she eventually passes out from exhaustion. But who would have thought that she would be reincarnated in the same game and that too in the body of the villainess.

Penelope must make smart decisions to avoid the death road in a world that seems to have everyone out for her blood.

There are various reasons why I like this manhwa, the first reason being, The female MC!

9- Sweet Home

18 year old Cha Hyun, a high school student, spends most of the time in his bedroom playing video games. He is the kind of guy who favors being alone or rather prefers being solitary. After his family dies in a car accident, Cha Hyun finds himself forced to move into a new apartment by himself.

Not only did he have annoying neighbors but his lack of funds were making it harder for him to live. Soon, he decides to end it all by committing suicide but who would have thought that the day when he was going to kill himself, the world changed. People around him soon started turning into terrifying monsters and plunged the world into an apocalyptic turmoil.

If all of these weren’t worse enough, he soon discovers that he himself is turning into a monster. He has to race against time and must work with his tenants to find the cause of the epidemic and to make it through this now wretched world.

He also has to fight for the sake of retaining his humanity.

First of all this manhwa is not for the weak hearted guys. This is a true horror manhwa, it shows how dark society can be and how depression could guide you to a pitch-black path of no return.

If you are going for this manhwa just to read some hardcore action of humans fighting with monsters, then you should stop as this is much more than that.

Well, the above manhwa recommendation was quite gloomy right??

No worries! As this one is the most ideal one for you with lots of comedy.

This manhwa also has another name i.e. Return of the Blossoming Blade.

Chung Myung our main character and also the 13th disciple of the Mount Hua sect, one of the greatest swordsman defeated Chun Ma but later succumbed to his wounds and died.

Chun Ma also called the Heavenly Demon bought death and destruction upon this world. He was so strong that an entire army of top tier martial artists were decimated by him. Sects, towns, villages all were destroyed under him, but with Mount Hua, the ten great sects and Chung Myung, the plum blossom swordsman’s desperate resistance he was defeated but too much was lost and even Chung Myung also lost his life at the end.

In the next moment after his regretful death over such pyrrhic victory, he opens his eyes, only to find himself in the body of a young boy from the beggars sect.

After inquiring he finds out a shocking truth, that over 100 years have passed after the battle with Chun Ma. But that was not the most shocking part to Chung Myung, he was shocked when he found out that the his beloved Mount Hua Sect is nowhere to be seen as it had gone into rapid decline.

Watch as he sets out on a journey to restore Mount Hua back to its former glory.

This manhwa has one of the best MC. He is a real badass. He is smart, ruthless, calculative and too easy going. He is just too domineering, even the elders of the sect are afraid of a guy like him.

Our main character also has a special power that is, “To piss people so much, until they start coughing up blood!” and that’s where the comedy comes into play. The comedy here is gold.

This is the story of a man, who goes to the fantasy tower to take revenge on all those who killed his brother.

Our Main character is smart, handsome, ruthless and overpowered. The art of this manhwa is beautiful and the story is very intriguing.

Five years ago, Yeon-woo’s twin brother mysteriously disappeared, only for his pocket watch to suddenly fall into Yeon-woo’s hands. Inside, Yeon-woo found a hidden diary. But the content of it shook Yeon-woo to the core, “By the time you hear this, I guess I will already be dead…” . His brother wrote this at the end of his life.

As, Yeon-woo kept reading it, he realized a shocking truth about his brother’s death. Obelisk, the Tower of the Sun God, a world where several universes and dimensions intersect. Cha Jeong-woo Yeon-woo’s twin brother had died after being betrayed while he climbed the Tower, and after learning the truth, Yeon-woo decided to climb the tower with the help of his brother’s diary.

“From now on, I am Cha Jeong-woo”, deciding this he takes on his brother’s identity and enters the mysterious tower in search of his brother’s killers.

Tang Yoo Sung was a junior warrior with literally no talent, but he had one of the most important things needed to become a warrior i.e hard work. But reality was often harsh, as only hard work couldn’t help him achieve victory he also needed talent as a result of which, he died in the battlefield.

But in the next moment he opened his eyes, he finds himself back in the past, when he was just a child. That was not the end to it, as he also received a notification in his head, “Welcome to Murim Online”.

Yes! you guessed that right, our MC was reborn with a system.

Well, before you get into the conclusion saying that our Mc should be OP as he has the system, but sorry to disappoint you, he is not , at least at the start.

Most of the main characters after receiving their cheats/system either become arrogant or lazy. But the MC of this manhwa is not either of them, he is very hard working and humble. That is the biggest reason why people love this manhwa.

The art is good, side characters are well written. It’s not the cliché troupe where the MC will surely win. Even though Tang Yoo Sung is weak at the start, he works very hard to become strong.

This one is for those who love school life action genre. It is one of the finest manhwa recommendations.

The first time I read it, I was so hooked but unfortunately at that time it only had 20 chapters. Good news for you though, as now this manhwa/webtoon has more than 196 chapters. so don’t have to be disappointed. Well, reading late sure has its perks!

Weak Hero highlights the problems students face the most in schools & colleges i.e. Bullying!

The school is run by tyrants/bullies who enjoy agonizing the weakest kids in class. But then one day a mysterious student named Gray arrived. This new student threatens to dismantle the established order. He looks like a weak frail guy and he is actually one. He is the best student in the class with Straight-A grades.

If ruthlessness had a synonym then it would be “RAY“

Ray may be small in stature, but he is calculative, smart and ruthless to his enemies. The reason I’m saying this is because even though he doesn’t know how to fight, he calculates every move of his opponent, learns from their behavior and makes a plan to defeat them. It doesn’t matter if he has a trash can, towel , books or curtains, he makes use of those to make the opponents lying on the floor begging for mercy.

4- Tale of a Scribe Who Retires to the Countryside

I know the name is too lengthy, but trust me this manhwa is one of a kind. Well, let me tell you a bit of my experience while reading this. When this manhwa just released, I was very excited to read it because martial arts genre is my favorite.

As, I kept reading, after 15 chapters my excitement turned into disappointment I thought I would be seeing some great action and a strong MC, but till now it was all talk. So, I dropped it, but that was my biggest mistake. Fast forward a year later, I thought of giving it a try and reading it till the latest chapters and to my astonishment, the story just became more and more amazing.

The reason was simple, this manhwa is very slow. So, if you are fine with slow developing plot and story and a MC who grows stronger slowly, then this manhwa is for you.

This manhwa tells us about a failed scholar, Son Bin’s journey through the Murim world where he perceives the martial arts not by practicing instead through the deeds and the practices of the martial arts master, Sa Jahyuk, who gave him the task to follow him on a journey and write a book about his great heroic deeds ,so that the future generation remembers him.

Sa Jahyuk, the martial arts king believes that:

"If people don't know about any event, then it's the same as if it never happened!" 

Our MC has no idea about martial arts ,so he just observed Sa Jahyuk’s training and wrote notes about his strange but overpowered martial arts. Later he realizes that these notes combined to create a book helps him gain enlightenment about martial arts, as he soon finds himself following the path of the Martial Arts King.

The art of this manhwa is beautiful. The story is very intriguing. This is one of the most famous manhwa with a very likable main character.

2- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint

Kim Dokja, as the name means Main Character in korean, but the irony here is- He doesn’t find himself as the protagonist of his own life, he is a lonely guy whose sole hobby is reading web novels.

For years, he has lived reading a web novel, “Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA)’. The main character of that novel was named Yu Junghyeok. Yu Junghyeok, was a regressor, and who knows how many times he had repeated the same life again and again.

Almost everyone had dropped reading the novel instead of Kim Dokja, who after completing the 3100+ chapters sighed sitting in the train. At that time he received a message or you could say a gift from the mysterious author. Then the world goes dark.

Then Earth he knew was not there instead it had changed to the world of, ‘Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse’. The novel becomes reality and he is the only one who has the knowledge of what is going to happen in future and how the world is going to end. Armed with the knowledge of being a reader, watch how he embarks on a journey filled with lots of action and drama.

The manhwa is so good. Although, although I prefer the light novel more. Simply because, it is in much more detail.

Our MC is very clever and fully uses his overpowered cheat i.e. ‘Knowledge about the novel‘. The art is very beautiful and this is considered one the best manhwa because it lacks all the cliché plots and is unpredictable.

The most popular manhwa, or the father of Dungeons & Monsters genre, Solo Leveling is what we call perfection. Be it art, story, MC, plot each and everything is perfect.

Also known by another name, Only I Level Up. This manhwa is completed and has a total of 181 Chapters.

Written by Chugong, this is one of the best light novel now adapted to a manhwa. It is the story of how the world’s weakest hunter turns into the strongest. I know most of you might be thinking, “So, what’s so new about this, almost every other manhwa has a similar story!”

Well, you are wrong because this is one of the oldest manhwa but it has almost no cliché elements. The art is beautiful, it’s on a whole other level. What makes it even more amazing is, the manhwa releasing nowadays are mostly inspired from this masterpiece.

Ten years ago, an entity called “The Gate” appeared and connected the real world with the realm of magic and monsters. Eventually, monsters started coming out of it. To combat these strange monsters, ordinary people received superhuman powers and became known as “Hunters.”

20 year old Sung Jin-Woo is one such Hunter, but he is known as the “World’s Weakest Hunter,” as he is even weaker for a measly E-Rank.

Even though he is weak he has one goal and that is to hunt low-rank Gates to pay for his mother’s medical bills. However, everything changes when an expedition to a dungeon goes wrong and Jin-Woo awakens in a hospital three days later to find a mysterious screen floating in front of him.

It demands that Jin-Woo completes an unrealistic and intense training program, or face an appropriate penalty. Faced with an unusual system watch how Jin-Woo transforms himself into one of the most fearsome hunter in the world.

The story gets more and more engrossing as you progress. The fight scenes will send goosebumps down your spine with that realistic art. Overall, this is one manhwa that deserves to be at top, no matter the Day, Month or Year.
